About Us Mission StatementThe Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact. Big Brothers Big Sisters strives to assist boys and girls in their moral, social, emotional, physical and character development and to help boys and girls develop as total persons who can function in society through their communities as productive adult citizens. This process occurs through an adult volunteer system, supported by the agency, where a one-to one relationship is developed between an adult and a youth.
The Big Brothers program began in 1904 in New York City on the principle that regular personal contact between one man and one boy could prevent juvenile delinquency and provide a more complete life for a fatherless boy. Big Brothers of America, consisting of 13 Big Brother associations in the U.S. and Canada, was formed in 1944. Today, there are over 500 Big Brother Big Sister organizations serving children for a variety of reasons. Our Marquette program was formed in 1970.
