Big Futures Program

PREPARING YOUTH FOR LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

The Big Futures Program at Big Brothers Big Sisters is designed to guide youth with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed beyond high school. Through career exploration, college readiness, and post-secondary planning, we ensure that every young person has a personalized plan for their future—whether that includes college, trade school, the workforce, or military service.

HOW IT WORKS

WHAT IS BIG FUTURES?

Ages 18-24 is a unique time to explore options and take steps toward what you want to do, where you want to be, and who you want to become. Yet too often, young adults - especially those with fewer resources - face this transitional period with more uncertainty than excitement.

Big Futures is designed for young people after "graduation" from the traditional BBBS one-on-one match. BBBS of the Central Upper Peninsula Big Futures initiative assists alumni Littles as they pursue education in college/university or trade school, enlistment in the military, and/or living wage employment (The 3E's).

BBBS staff partner actively with alumni Littles, parents, & Bigs, to provide benefits to alumni Littles through the age of 24. Benefits include:
  • Connections: College/university contacts, military recruiters, employers
  • Experiences: Leadership conferences, job fairs, social & cultural activities
  • Opportunities: Scholarships, internships, apprenticeships
