STEP 1: ORIENTATION & APPLICATIONReview the volunteer orientation. The link for the orientation is at the beginning of the application. The orientation walks you through the expectations of becoming a Big.
Complete an application. This is the first step to getting the enrollment process started. Once the application is completed, BBBS staff will contact you to schedule an interview. |
STEP 2: IN PERSON INTERVIEWThe interview takes about 60 minutes and is the most useful tool in finding an appropriate Little for you. BBBS staff gathers information about you, your interests and hobbies, and the type of Little that you would be comfortable working with. BBBS staff will also use this time to complete paperwork and take a picture of your driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
STEP 3: PRE-MATCH TRAININGAfter you have completed the interview you will be signed up to complete the Volunteer Pre-Match Training. This takes place online using our online training platform - The Learning Exchange. This gives you tips on child safety and what to expect in BBBS.
STEP 4: MATCH SELECTIONOnce you have been accepted, BBBS staff will contact you with a description of a potential Little. Then a description of you will be given to the parent/guardian.
STEP 5: PRE-MATCH MEETINGThe volunteer and parent/guardian will meet briefly with BBBS staff in a local community setting. This is when you can learn more about the potential Little and the parent/guardian can learn more about you. If both agree to the match, a match meeting is set up.
STEP 6: MATCH MEETINGThe final-match meeting brings you together with your Little for the first time. This meeting takes place a the Little's home. BBBS staff will be there to introduce everyone and review the final agreements of the match. BBBS staff will assist in setting up the first match outing.
