STEP 1: ORIENTATION & APPLICATIONReview the parent/guardian orientation. The link for the orientation is at the beginning of the application. The orientation walks you through the expectations of enrolling a child.
Complete an application. This is the first step to getting the enrollment process started. Once the application is completed, BBBS staff will contact you to schedule an interview. |
STEP 2: IN-PERSON INTERVIEWThe interview takes about 90 minutes and is the most useful tool in finding an appropriate Big for your child. BBBS staff gathers information about your child, their interests and hobbies, and the type of Big you would want for your child. BBBS staff will also use this time to complete paperwork. The interview takes place in-home.
STEP 3: PRE-MATCH TRAININGAfter you have completed the interview our staff will schedule you for your pre-match training called "Your Child's Personal Safety". This takes place online using our online training platform - The Learning Exchange. This gives you tips on how to keep your child safe in a mentoring relationship.
STEP 4: MATCH SELECTIONOnce your child has been accepted as a Little, BBBS staff will contact you with a description of a potential Big. Then a description of you and your child will be given to the volunteer.
STEP 5: PRE-MATCH MEETINGThe volunteer and parent/guardian will meet briefly with BBBS staff in a local community setting. This is when you can learn more about the potential volunteer and they can learn more about you and your child. If both agree to the match, a match meeting is set up.
STEP 6: MATCH MEETINGThe final-match meeting brings you together with your child's Big for the first time. This meeting takes place at the Little's home. BBBS staff will be there to introduce everyone and review the final agreements and polices for the match. BBBS staff will assist in setting up the first match outing.
